Name Exploration
When asked to describe my family, I often reference my German heritage - which has dissipated over the generations, appearing on the table in the form of warm, sweet potato salad. [Also Lutheran.] I have been reminded of the links between Lutheranism and Germany frequently - with day one of Confirmation/Catechism class in seventh grade, in History courses that highlighted Martin Luther's Theses as an act that changed the course of history. I have seen the Lutheran in Germany, I have seen each in myself, but I have not seen the bridges each builds through history to me. In thinking of my name, I am struck by the links my parents have drawn. A childhood in which religion was a very personal thing, it was prevalent. The links between child names - Nathan John, Andrew Jesse, David Christian, Emily Rebecca.
